birthday...

Speaking of L's birthday, I got her a sweet pink bike (which, to quote Syd Barrett, has a basket, a bell, and rings and things to make it look good).

We had drinks at the rotating restaurant atop the Bedlam Westin...

then dinner and champagne at the famous Carroll Street Cafe:

Also there were flowers.

Stargazer lilies and lavender roses.

Good times.

Ragdoll kittens revisited

L & I recently visited our friends, the ones with the impossibly cute ragdoll kittens for part of L's birthday celebration.

 too. much. adorableness.

make it stop...

I couldn't help but think there's something wrong with so much cuteness all in one place.  It makes me suspicious.

What are they up to?

What are they planning?

I have a bad feeling about this.

Jinx

I've been playing jinx recently, the game where you can make someone stop talking if you say the same thing at the same time. The way we played it growing up, if you talked while in jinx you had to buy the other person a coke. For every word spoken.

But I soon found I wasn't jinxing people as often as I wanted to, so I changed the rules with some people, mostly with L. It's a lot more fun this way.  I now jinx her whenever we even share the same thought. Like,

Sabitathica: Why are zebras striped? It's for camouflage, right? But don't they live on the savanna? What could they be trying to blend in with? Each other? That doesn't seem like it would work.
L: Oh my god, that's so weird. I was just thinking the exact same thing!
Sabitathica: jinx.

Or, in the car, both singing to a song:

Sabitathica & L: "Hey hey mama said the way you move..."
Sabitathica: jinx.

Under the new rules, I could jinx you right now for reading this and following my train of thought, but I won't.  I don't even drink coke.

Escape from new york

I watched Escape from New York the other night and wrote a piece of music which I thought should have appeared on the soundtrack, but didn't.

Hang gliding, which should be illegal, part II

Hang gliding is awesome should be used as punishment for people who commit horrible crimes.

Fact: If the good lord had intended us to fly, he wouldn't have invented acrophobia.  Or common sense.

Conclusion: hang gliding is dangerous and should be illegal.

Hang gliding, which should be illegal, part I

Premise: hang gliding is dangerous and should be illegal.

I went hang gliding a few weeks ago.  I woke L up early one Sunday so she could drive us up to Lookout Mountain.  Thanks, L!

I didn't know how to get there and I don't think L did either. Lucky then, to have received generous navigational assistance from helpful roadsigns along the way.

We arrived at hang gliding headquarters, where it was demanded of us that we sign a waiver forfeiting our right to expect a life free from the fear of falling out of the sky.

Here is the view from hang gliding headquarters:

And this is where you jump: a bit of road the length of a driveway. It's paved like a driveway too.  But unlike a driveway, instead of leading to a house or a garage, this one leads to beauty and to fear:

I thought we'd be jumping from here and was beginning to have second thoughts about things when we were told no, this was only 1400 feet; we had to go all the way up to 4000 feet.

Terrorized, we drove to a field where hang gliders were being pulled up into the sky by a tow cable attached TO THE BACK OF AN AIRPLANE.

Yes, the back of an airplane.  It's true.

Here is L, scared hysterically out of her mind, bravely holding it together long enough to point out the field where these things occur.  Feel the dread.

Poor girl...

things you must have

We're proud to announce that the hardworking folks of the Sabitathiblog marketing department have come up with some new goodies just for you.

Have you ever noticed how boring your life is?  Don't you wish you could be happy, like the people on TV?  Well, now you can!  You can have the life you always wanted simply by acquiring a set of Sabitathica Drink Coasters:

Display your individuality!  Amaze the neighbors!  Resist tyranny!  Skull candle sold separately.

And while you're at it, please remember to indoctrinate the impressionable younger generation (while there's still time!) by giving them their very own Sabitathica Puzzle:

(For best results it is recommended that children complete this puzzle several times a day.  They may resist at first, but they'll thank you for it when they're older!)

The supply is limited! Time is running out! You're not getting any younger! You work hard, and other people are irritating! You deserve more from life! Don't delay!

my blog and the plight of Number 6

Lots of people have been in touch over the past several weeks, people who are angry and confused (just like you!) asking about my blog.

For instance, Number 6 is angry and confused. He has, in his own way, politely requested that I post more updates, in the desperate hope that his wild and undisciplined life might somehow regain a semblance of focus.

As documentary proof of what I've had to put up with recently, here's an IM exchange between Number 6 and myself on the topic of my blog:

1:09 PM Number 6: What happened?
Did you die?
1:10 PM Sabitathica: go away.  and stop bothering me.
                      Number 6: Are you dead?
Sabitathica: what are you talking about?  go away.
Number 6: Your blog. What happened? Run out of funding?
Sabitathica: lol.  leave me alone.
                      Number 6: No longer interested?
Are you now an anti-blogger?
1:11 PM I read that everyday, Sabitathica. You not having any updates FUCKS UP MY LIFE!

I know, Number 6...

I know.

So there'll be more updates.  And there's some new functionality too, like a sweet new mp3 player where you can listen to music I make for you.  So quit your job, sit back, stare at your computer, and wait.
