Arles ...

the town where Van Gogh painted himself into madness in the late 1880s.

I hadn't known there was a Roman theater here.

and an old Roman amphitheater ...

The theater and amphitheater are still in use, and both are currently undergoing renovation.

They still hold bullfights in the amphitheater.

I've never seen architecture this old before.

This is the restaurant where they took down the menu board and stopped serving food one minute after we sat down ... and before we ordered. So we ended up eating more Perrier, as usual.

French food is good - very good - when you can find it, which you can't. But this time we got lucky and had a fantastic dinner in a tiny restaurant in Arles. Good times.
