the Midi Canal: dinner

You can moor anywhere you want to on the Canal, you don't have to be in harbor. You can secure your boat to a tree, or just drive some stakes into the earth along the shore when you find where you want to stay.

This is where we moored, with a view of mountains and vineyards:

The sun was setting

and we were hungry, since we can't for the life of us seem to figure out when the French eat. So we made due with what we had and ate dinner up on deck.

What we had turned out to be pretty damn good:

Sparkling wine from a local vineyard;
bottomless Perrier;
local thyme preserves we bought at a lock
spread over biscuits
and sprinkled with the cheese we bought in Salers.

Beautiful.

voila:

A great way to spend an extended 40th birthday.
