the Mediterranean, day II

This part of the land has many wild white horses ...


and their colts ...


who are free to graze and roam. Notice they're on this side of that fence.


Which means either:

1. these horses are wild or
2. we're all trapped in a very large zoo together.


The free-roaming flamingos give some credence to my giant zoo theory:

This was our second day on the Mediterranean. We wanted to beach at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer today but traffic to the shore was prohibitive.

It turns out we're here during the Festival of the Romani. The Romani are a race of gypsies who gather here once a year. Picture gypsy spring break.

So we went to Le Grau-du-Roi instead, which was also pretty dense with people getting their weekend on:
